In November, the people of Berkeley resoundingly endorsed aggressive local efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions when they passed Measure G by over 81%. The ballot title of the measure was as follows:
Should the People of the City of Berkeley have a goal of 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and advise the Mayor to work with the community to develop a plan for Council adoption in 2007, which sets a ten year emissions reduction target and identifies actions by the City and residents to achieve both the ten year target and the ultimate goal of 80% emissions reduction?
Following the passage of Measure G, the City created and funded the Berkeley Climate Action Team to work with the community on the development of a greenhouse gas reduction plan and to help people take immediate steps to reduce their carbon footprint.
This Berkeley Climate Action website is administered by the City’s Climate Action Coordinator, Timothy Burroughs, and funded by a grant from the San Francisco Foundation.
